INTRODUCTION:
My name is Nick Johnson 46 and I have been interested in photography from my teens. I have been fortunate enough to work as a full-time professional and have my work published and exhibited worldwide. I am looking at sending my career down the different path of teaching and I am looking forward to studying for a degree with the OCA to further these aims.
BACKGROUND:
After completing a BTEC HND in photography in 1990 I worked as an engineer full time whilst running a part-time photographic business. This work was mainly for editorial clients and it was during this period I developed an interest in horticultural photography with my work being published worldwide.
In 2002 I made the transition into full-time photography working for the ‘Boston Standard’ newspaper as their staff photographer and managed the change from film into digital photography, setting up their digital photographic systems. Although this job was extremely demanding on my time I still managed to carry on my own part-time freelance business with my work being published in various magazines as well as working for PR clients. I also found time for some personal work including a photographic exhibition at the ‘Boston Stump’ documenting a charity aid convoy to Bosnia, entitled ‘10 years after the war.’ This work showed a small view of life in Bosnia as the title suggests 10 years after the war had ended. I completed 3 trips to Bosnia from 2007 – 2009. The pictures can be seen by clicking on this link.

My garden photography is represented by ‘Garden World Images’ http://www.gardenworldimages.com a specialist picture agent for horticultural subjects. My work has appeared in ‘The English Garden,’ ‘House Beautiful,’ ‘Country Living,’ ‘Mail on Sunday,’ ‘Garten Zeitung’ to name a few. Examples of my flower photography can be seen by clicking this link.

In 2008 I was made redundant from the ‘Boston Standard’ and worked for myself for 18 months in a general photographic business which included, editorial, PR, horticultural work and weddings.

My current interest at present is HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Infrared photography with an IR converted digital camera and I am very much enjoying the challenge of practicing both techniques.
Everyday is an adventure!
